en:countering

En:countering is an artist-led collaborative proposal formulated with the aim of creating a dialogue between artists, their art practices and audiences across international borders, disciplines and ideologies.  Two artist-researchers, Aran Echarte and Hilary Ramsden, investigate elements in their practice-led research through the initiation of an open-ended dialogue employing the notion of ‘encountering’. In their research both Echarte and Ramsden explore Bourriaud’s concept of relational art and expand upon it, following contemporary debates between Clare Bishop and Grant Kester.  En:countering investigates and develops its meaning and potential for creative and conversational focus through practice.

Practice

Echarte and Ramsden invite six artists, two from UWE and four from a different country (there are currently three participating countries) to each respond to a specific statement written around the term ‘encountering’.  Each invited artist will not feel restricted to a particular discipline or possible outcome.

En:countering then travels to each participating country to facilitate collaborative installations and performances of the responses created by the invited artists together with the artwork of the original four artists.
